AbstractSteppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking a Resources for Change: Technology grant from the National Endowment of the Arts in the amount of $70,000 to support the development of an innovative system that will provide affordable and manageable automated motion control of a variety of stage scenery effects. PC-Based Control for Theater Stage Machinery is an 18-month project that seeks to integrate a PC-based system with existing industrial technology and hardware materials, and to create a strategy for adapting this system’s use to the needs of theater technicians and designers. Steppenwolf is undertaking this ambitious project in collaboration with Fritz Schwentker, Assistant Professor in the Department of Theater and Dance/Center for Advanced Studies in the Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, who will serve as the Project Leader. With this project, we will devise a stage operating system that will enhance present production procedures and offer greater creative flexibility to our artistic and technical staff. We will also be able to create a model that can be utilized by other theaters interested automated control options. Go to: Project Details |
