Overview

Most practitioners of the craft know the value of easily adaptable and affordable systems that can do this work, and I have had success in using off-the-shelf industrial controls paired with personal computers to develop such a system.

The following documentation offers insight to the technology, the research process, and the various realized projects that comprise the bulk of the effort. A descriptive listing of what the following pages include is below--

bulletAn overview of the industrial technology that underlies the project.
bulletThe  project at the Steppenwolf Theatre supported by a grant
from the National Endowment for the Arts. This includes
bulletA detailed description of the project, and
bulletSome detail on Mother Courage and Her Children, the first
production at Steppenwolf to use some of the technology.
bulletAn on-going collaboration with the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX
bulletResearch and performance testing at the University of Texas, including
bulletThe Automated Body project and work in
bulletboth the Center for Advanced Studies in the Arts and Department of Theatre & Dance
bulletOutreach efforts to disseminate the technology including
bullet Master Class / Workshops, and
bulletConference presentations.
bulletA listing of my publications

Some of my work has been noted in publication by others--

bulletAn article on the Steppenwolf collaboration in Entertainment Design
magazine, and
bulletAn IT@UT profile from the office of Information Technology Services at UT
Austin.
